  1. I bet she will go on to make some beautiful babies! Unless in retirement they won't turn her into a broodmare.

  2. Well, I just read this in Bloodhorse.com. I don't know whether to be happy for her (I am glad that they did it) or cry because I won't see her anymore.

I feel it was probably the best thing to do for her but wish she had been able to go out in a blaze of glory.

I guess I will cry after all....

  3. I'm sad to hear about her retirement.....it's not like she finished out of the money. I think that she must has some sort of injury...that would explain why they kept her in her stall last winter and the problems they seem to be having in training this year. It's a shame that we won't see beautiful Rachel run again. I hope she has a long and happy life.

  7. Thank you Pixie! It was a wonderful run. It was over 30 years from Ruffian to Rachel it may be another few decades before we see anything like her. But even then she is irreplacable.

Best wishes to you too Pixie.

  8. Yes, I ditto those remarks. I hope you feel better, Pixie, and thanks so much for providing my daily dose of Rachel.

I will miss all my fellow Rachel fans and bless you all and bless my sweet girl.

Sorry, but getting a little sentimental, now that the race is done.

  9. As sad as I am about this.. At least she retired sound, and not because of an injury. I can't wait to see her and Curlin's baby!!

  10. I am very sad that she will not be racing as I will miss seeing her. She is spectacular. I am also glad that they knew when to make a decision for her. The owner and trainer know what is best for her and as we see would not do anything to allow her to get hurt.

  11. Pixie - thank you for all the work you have done to keep us Rachel fans informed! I can't thank you enough for the videos, photos, blog, Facebook page, etc. It has been one heck of a ride and one I will never forget. Now it's time to start a new chapter for us as Rachel moves on to retirement.

If you want to keep in touch with me, which I would love, you can send me a message on Facebook or email me at njohns0104@gmail.com. I hope you are well and getting some much deserved rest just like your girl Rachel!

  12. I have a question, I've read that many thought that Rachels last work was her best this year.....then the retirement...they aren't taking her to Stonecreek near Lexington, but to Churchill Downs instead...hummmmmmmmmm.

  13. One other item....Tinker Bell (who post to the comments section on this site, is starting a site for all racehorses. She is requesting people to sign up. It will be about all horses, I hope she is able to keep it positive, the site is below if anyone is interested

  14. Pixie, Hope you are doing well...been thinking about you wondering how it's going. I know we all love Rachel, but I have met some really great people along this great Rachel ride. Please keep in touch...I am your fan as well.

  15. I read this article (link below), very good, and cried...then the mailman brought my tickets to the Breeders Cup today and I cried again....if she does not have an injury, I can't understand why they retired her the way they did (especially after her latest works)...she gave everything on the track and they gave her nothing....didn't give her a dignified retirement, quick press release, and just shoved her out the back door....they gave up on her just becuause she wasn't turning 110+ BSF..she deserved more than that....as you can tell, I'm still very upset and I hope Rachel will be treated well and have a happy life.....it's just that she looked like she wanted to run so much at her last work.

  16. Dear Rachel Fan,

I read the same article and I feel your pain. There is no closure here for her fans and I have read complaints on other blogs regarding this. The thing that also drives me nuts is that on that DRF farewell blog, and others I've read, the Zenyatta crazies were still dissing her! I don't know what is worse--JJ just sneaking her off without any formal farewell or the Zenyatta people unable to let her retire in dignity.

  17. I think the Zenyatta crazies are worse....they dismiss all her great accomplishmets as bogus and that still baffels me. The only way I can sum it up is that Zenyatta lost HOY to Curlin and then Rachel something they can't get over and the only way they feel better about it is to bash Rachel. What a shame that they would do it to such a great racehorse.....

  18. The Zenyatta fans are disgraceful. Their trashing of Rachel is ridiculous and pathetic.
